A Las Vegas man will spend six years behind bars for stealing U.S. Treasury checks that totaled nearly $8 million, according to federal prosecutors.

A judge sentenced Kyle Eugene Duncan-Carle, 41, to prison time, plus an order to pay $3.49 million in restitution, the U.S. Attorney's Office for Utah announced Thursday.

Authorities alleged Duncan-Carle stole eight U.S. Treasury checks made out to people and companies in 2023, impersonated them to deposit the checks, and withdrew some of the funds.

The stolen checks totalled about $7.98 million, and he cost the U.S. government, financial institutions and one insurance provider about $3.49 million.

He admitted to bank fraud in 2023.
